Are You a Licensed Roof Contractor?

You should, at the very least, make sure that you are hiring a licensed roof contractor. The City of San Antonio requires all roofing contractors to register as a Residential Building Contractor, and this license needs to be renewed every two years. A contractor license is different from a business license; you need to specifically ask for the former when inquiring. Licensed contractors will have no problems providing their license information upon request.

Do You Have Proper Insurance?

Contractors in the building industry must have coverage for accidental property damage and bodily injury, in the form of liability insurance and workers’ compensation. Legitimate contractors will be happy to provide you with a copy of their insurance certificates. Do You Have Homeowner References?

One of the best ways to gauge the workmanship of a particular roofing company is to speak with their prior clients. Do You Have a Physical Location?

A contractor with a showroom, or at least a brick-and-mortar location, gives you the opportunity to get to know them by speaking with them personally. This makes it easier to decide later if you’d be comfortable hiring them. A local contractor with a physical location is also more likely to be family-owned with an established reputation in the local community.
