A-TEX Roofing FAQs
How long does it take to install a new roof?
Installing a new roof can be a time-consuming process, but the exact duration will depend on several factors. The size of the building, type of roofing material selected, weather conditions, and amount of labor required are all elements that need to be taken into account. On average, it takes anywhere from two to four days for installing a new roof.
What should I do if my roof is leaking?
If your roof is leaking, the first thing you should do is assess the severity of the issue. It’s important to identify whether it’s just a minor drip or something more serious such as structural damage that requires professional help.
In some cases, homeowners can attempt to repair simple leaks on their own. This includes checking for loose shingles and replacing any damaged ones. You may also need to replace flashing or sealant around skylights and vents to prevent future leaks from occurring in those areas. For larger repairs, like missing shingles or extensive water damage, it’s best to contact a qualified roofer who has experience repairing roofs with your type of material (e.g., asphalt shingle).

Can a residential roofer help with insurance claims?
Absolutely. Residential roofers can help homeowners through the entire insurance claim process. First, the roofer will inspect your roof to make sure it meets all of the criteria set forth in the insurance policy. If damages are found, they will document them and provide a detailed estimate of what needs to be done for repairs or replacement.
Next, your roofer can work with you to create a comprehensive report that details any damage and includes photos and videos that document exactly what happened. This is especially important if there has been storm damage as oftentimes insurers may deny a claim due to lack of tangible evidence or proof without it being provided by an expert such as an experienced residential roofer. Your residential roofer can also help you file your claim correctly so that you can be reimbursed properly for any lost time and money spent on repairs or replacements.
In addition, your residential roofing partner can advise on the best materials to use when completing repairs or replacements covered under home insurance claims based on their experience with similar jobs in past projects they’ve worked on successfully. Having reliable expertise from someone who knows about local weatherproofing requirements, products available in your area, and pricing points for various materials used in repairing said damage – these considerations alone could speed up settlements part of negotiations with insurers although this depends greatly upon individual case circumstances too.
All in all, hiring a qualified residential Roofing company is beneficial because registered contractors understand how home insurance works from both sides of the negotiation table ensuring no stone is left unturned when filing a claim – providing further peace of mind in stressful times like this knowing costs are covered properly…and fairly!

What are the most common types of commercial roofing materials?
When it comes to commercial roofing materials, there are several different types of materials that can be used. The type that is right for your building depends on its size and the region you live in. Here’s a look at some of the most common types of commercial roofing materials:
Asphalt Shingles – Asphalt shingles are among the most popular material choices among commercial roofs due to their affordability and durability. They last for up to 50 years with proper maintenance and typically range from a few thousand dollars (depending on square footage) to installation.
Metal Roofs – When it comes to longevity, metal roofs tend to be one of the best options as they can last upwards of 80-100 years with very little maintenance needed along the way. Installation costs tend to be higher compared to other materials (anywhere between $10-15 per square foot).
Modified Bitumen – Modified bitumen is another great option when it comes to commercial roofing options due to its ability to resist fire, punctures, and bad weather conditions like hail or strong winds (upwards wind speed ratings up to 110 mph). On average installation costs come in around $7 per square foot which is relatively inexpensive compared to other rooftop options out there today!
Single-Ply Membrane – If you’re looking for something lightweight yet durable then single-ply membranes are worth considering as an option when constructing a rooftop system for your business or organization’s building structure! This material usually consists of polymers such as EPDM rubber, TPO, or PVC which helps keep water out while also preventing UV rays from entering your facility or workspace environment during hot summer days! Depending on thickness these membranes usually range anywhere between 45 mils-90 mils in size with installation costing upwards around $8-$13+ per square foot depending on how big the area being covered by this type of membrane product will need to be measured/installed correctly too!
These are just some of the many different types available when choosing suitable roofing material(s) for commercial use purposes today; make sure to do plenty of research beforehand before deciding what works best needs based upon budget constraints & factors given the time/resources allocated to!!
How do I know if I need emergency roof repair?
Roof repairs can be costly and inconvenient, which is why it’s important to know when you need emergency roof repair. As a homeowner, the last thing you want is a leaky or damaged roof causing major damage to your property.
But how do you know if your roof needs immediate attention? Here are some signs that indicate you may need emergency roof repair:
1. Water leaks: If you notice water dripping from your ceiling or light fixtures, it’s a definite sign of a damaged or compromised roof. This could be due to missing shingles, cracks in the roof membrane, or even holes caused by severe weather conditions. It’s crucial to address this issue immediately as water leaks can lead to extensive damage if left untreated.
2. Visible damage: Take a good look at your roof from the ground and see if there are any visible signs of damage such as missing shingles, sagging areas, or cracks in the surface. These are all red flags that require immediate attention before they worsen and result in costly repairs.
3. Age of the Roof: The lifespan of most roofs is around 20-25 years depending on the material used and maintenance provided. If your roof is approaching this age range, it’s best to have an inspection done by a professional roofing contractor to ensure its structural integrity.
4. Harsh Weather Conditions: Extreme weather events like heavy rainstorms, hailstorms, and strong winds can cause significant damage to roofs and require immediate repair work. Be sure to check for any damages after severe weather events as soon as possible.
5. Sagging Gutters: Your gutters play an essential role in keeping water away from your home’s foundation and preventing moisture buildup on the rooftop itself they start sagging or pulling away from your home’s fascia board, it could indicate underlying structural issues with your roofing system that require prompt repairs before further damage occurs.

What are the common issues with tile roofs that require repair?
1) Broken or Cracked Tiles: This is one of the most common problems faced by tile roof owners. Due to severe weather conditions or improper installation, tiles on your roof may break or crack over time. Not only does this affect the overall appearance of your house, but it also compromises the integrity of your roof. The good news is that cracked tiles can be easily replaced by a professional roofer without having to replace the entire roof.
2) Leaks: Another issue with tile roofs is that they are prone to leaks if not installed correctly. Improperly sealed flashing or gaps between tiles can allow water to seep through and cause structural damage if left unresolved. Regular inspections by a professional roofer can help identify these problem areas before they escalate into bigger issues.
3) Build-up of Debris: Over time, debris such as leaves and twigs can accumulate on top of your tile roof, especially if you have trees close by. This build-up of debris not only looks unsightly but also traps moisture which could lead to mold growth and rotting of underlying materials. To prevent this issue, schedule regular cleanings for your tile roof – at least once every six months depending on how many trees surround your home.
4) Fading or Discoloration: Tile roofs tend to lose their luster over time due to prolonged exposure to sunlight and other environmental factors such as moss growth or algae formation. If left untreated, fading can significantly diminish the curb appeal of your home while moss growth can cause serious damage if it starts creeping under tiles causing leakage issues mentioned earlier.
5) Poor Ventilation: Proper airflow is crucial for a healthy roof. When there is inadequate ventilation, heat and moisture can build up under the tiles, causing them to crack or become brittle over time. To avoid this problem, make sure your tile roof has enough vents installed and that they are not obstructed by debris.

What is the average cost to repair a roof leak?
The cost can also be influenced by the specific cause of the leak. For example, if the leak is due to a few damaged shingles, the repair might be relatively inexpensive. But if the leak is due to a more systemic issue, like poor roof installation or significant water damage, the cost could be much higher. In some cases, particularly with older roofs, it might be more cost-effective in the long run to replace the entire roof rather than continually repairing leaks as they arise.
It’s important to address roof leaks as soon as possible to prevent further damage to your home. If you’re unsure about the cost, it’s a good idea to get estimates from several professional roofing contractors. They can assess the damage, explain what repairs are needed, and provide you with a detailed quote. Remember, while cost is an important consideration, it’s also essential to choose a reputable and experienced contractor to ensure the job is done right. Special thanks to Chattanooga Roofing for answering this question!
How do I find a reputable roofing contractor near me?
Next, you can also conduct an online search for local roofing contractors. Websites like Google, Yelp, and Angie’s List can show you a list of contractors in your area along with customer reviews. Be sure to read these reviews carefully, as they can provide valuable insights into the contractor’s reliability, professionalism, and quality of work.
Once you’ve narrowed down your options, reach out to several contractors for estimates. During this process, ask about their experience, licensing, insurance, and whether they offer warranties on their work. A reputable contractor will be transparent about these details and willing to provide references from past clients. It’s also advisable to check with your local Better Business Bureau to see if any complaints have been filed against the contractors you’re considering.
Remember, the lowest quote may not always be the best option. Consider the contractor’s reputation, quality of work, and level of customer service when making your decision. A reputable contractor will not only offer fair pricing but also demonstrate a commitment to quality and customer satisfaction. This information was provided by Pally Roofing. How do local roofers charge for their services?
Local roofers typically charge for their services based on several factors, including the scope of the project, the type of roofing materials used, and the complexity of the job. Pricing methods can vary: some roofers may charge by the hour, while others offer rates per square foot or provide a flat fee for specific tasks like repairs or replacements. Obtaining a detailed estimate before work begins is common practice, as it ensures transparency in costs and helps you understand what to expect.
Additionally, costs can be influenced by other considerations such as the condition of the existing roof, accessibility issues, and any necessary permits or disposal fees for old materials. It’s important to discuss all these aspects with your roofer during the initial consultation to avoid surprises later on. Most reputable local roofers will provide a comprehensive breakdown of the charges, ensuring that you have a clear understanding of where your money is going. What are the common causes of a leaking roof?
Common causes of a leaking roof include damaged or missing shingles, which can occur due to severe weather conditions such as heavy winds, hail, or prolonged exposure to the sun. Another frequent culprit is improperly sealed roof valleys—the areas where two roof planes meet—since they are particularly vulnerable to water penetration if not correctly installed. Additionally, broken or cracked flashing around chimneys, vents, and skylights can allow water to seep in.
Other causes include clogged gutters, which prevent water from draining properly and cause it to back up onto the roof, leading to leaks. Worn-out or deteriorated roofing materials are also a significant factor, especially for roofs that have exceeded their expected lifespan. Further, poor roof installation or inadequate maintenance can exacerbate these issues, making it essential to regularly inspect and maintain your roof to mitigate potential leaks. Special thanks to Action Roofing for sharing this information with us!
What are the common causes of roof leaks?
Common causes of roof leaks include damaged or missing shingles, which can occur due to high winds, hail, or age-related wear and tear. Cracked or improperly installed flashing around chimneys, vents, and skylights is another frequent culprit, as it allows water to seep through joints and seams. Additionally, clogged gutters can lead to water buildup that seeps under the roofing material, causing leaks.
Other causes include ice dams, which form when snow on the roof melts and refreezes at the edges, preventing proper drainage and forcing water under the shingles. Poor roof installation or repairs can also lead to leaks if materials are not properly sealed or aligned. Regular maintenance and inspections are crucial to identifying and addressing these issues before they lead to significant damage.
How long does a roof leak repair take?
The duration of a roof leak repair largely depends on the extent of the damage and the complexity of the repair. Simple repairs, such as fixing a few shingles or sealing small leaks, can typically be completed within a few hours. However, more extensive issues, like significant water damage or structural problems, may require a full day or more to address.
Additionally, factors such as weather conditions and roof accessibility can influence the repair time. Adverse weather can delay the process, and hard-to-reach areas may take longer to fix. For an accurate estimate, it’s best to have a professional roofer assess the situation on-site.
How much does it cost to repair a leaking roof?
The cost to repair a leaking roof can vary widely based on several factors, including the extent of the damage, the type of roofing material, and the location of the leak. Minor repairs, such as fixing a small section of shingles or sealing a puncture, are generally less expensive, while more extensive damage that affects larger areas or involves structural components can be significantly costlier.
Additional factors that influence the cost include the labor rates in your area and the accessibility of the damaged section. It’s advisable to get multiple quotes from reputable roofing contractors to compare pricing and services. A thorough inspection by a professional will provide a more accurate estimate and help ensure that all underlying issues are addressed.
What materials are typically used in leaking roof repairs?
Materials typically used in leaking roof repairs include new shingles or tiles to replace any that are damaged or missing. Roofing nails and screws are essential for securing these materials in place. Sealants and roofing cement are frequently employed to seal gaps, cracks, and joints, ensuring a watertight barrier.
Additionally, flashing—metal strips installed around roof features such as chimneys, vents, and skylights—is often replaced or repaired to prevent leaks at these vulnerable points. Underlayment, a protective layer beneath the shingles, may also be necessary if it has been compromised. The specific materials required will depend on the type of roof and the nature of the repair.
What should I consider when choosing a roofing contractor?
When choosing a roofing contractor, it’s crucial to evaluate their experience and credentials. Look for contractors with a solid track record in the industry, as seasoned professionals are likely to deliver quality work and handle unexpected challenges effectively. Ensure that the contractor holds the necessary licenses, which comply with local regulations, and that they carry adequate insurance to protect you from any liabilities during the project.
Additionally, seek out references or testimonials from previous clients to gauge their satisfaction with the contractor’s work. Clear communication is also essential; the contractor should be responsive and transparent about the project timeline, processes, and any potential issues that may arise. Establishing open lines of communication will help ensure that your expectations are met and that the project progresses smoothly.
How does the climate in my area affect the type of roofing material I should choose?
The climate in your area plays a significant role in determining the most suitable roofing material for your home. In hot and sunny climates, materials such as clay tiles or metal roofing are ideal because they reflect sunlight and provide excellent durability against heat. These materials can help keep your home cooler, reducing energy costs from air conditioning. On the other hand, if you live in a region with heavy rainfall or humidity, consider materials like asphalt shingles or slate, which offer good water resistance and prevent moisture damage.
In colder climates, where snow and ice are prevalent, it’s essential to choose roofing materials that can withstand freeze-thaw cycles without cracking or deteriorating. Metal roofing is often a preferred choice due to its ability to shed snow easily and its resilience in extreme cold. Additionally, if your area is prone to high winds or storms, consider impact-resistant shingles or tiles that offer added protection against wind damage. Ultimately, selecting the right material that complements your climate not only enhances your roof’s lifespan but also contributes to your home’s overall energy efficiency.

After speaking with several roofing companies, I chose to go with John at A-TEX. He was very knowledgeable and took the time to walk me through the process of a new roof.
Have NEVER encountered a better roofing company. They are also great advocates in assuring that you get treated right by your insurance company! Actually, this latest roof was a USAA claim and while USAA seemed to lowball the claim, when A-TEX chomped on their leg, they accepted the A-TEX rebuttal immediately. Turned out USAA also wanted to do right by their client (me) and just needed justification to do so. I’ve referred A-TEX to 4 friends and they won 3 of the 4 jobs. . . and pleased all three referrals.
A-TEX is true to their warranty and does what needs to be done to make it all correct.
After a hail storm, A-TEX performed a full replacement for us. We did experience some leaks but they were addressed quickly and repaired. At one point, we had a medical issue with a child which kept us from booking one of the repairs needed to the interior. A-TEX was patient and left the decision on appropriate timing up to us. About 6 months later, things were better and they came out and did the necessary repairs. The painter just left our home. They stood behind their work as advertised and most importantly were good to us when we needed them to be flexible. There was no hassle at all and we are thankful to have worked with them throughout this odd time in life.
We have an average of 4.5 out of 5 stars for customer satisfaction.
