Have you just returned home, and your garage keypad isnโt working? Before you spend money on a garage door keypad service call, try the following troubleshooting tips. If these fixes donโt work, contact A-TEX Roofing & Remodeling, San Antonioโs trusted firm for garage door repair and service.
Dead Batteries
If your keypad isnโt functioning, try to recall when you last changed the batteries. If the garage keypad isnโt blinking, replace the batteries and try to open the garage door. It should open if the problem is dead batteries.
Stuck Keys
Over time, dust, dirt, and grime can accumulate within the garage door keypad and cause it to malfunction. To eliminate this accumulation, use compressed air to flush the keypad. A soft cloth can also work instead of compressed air. A soft brush may be needed for more stubborn accumulations.
Damaged Wires
Your garage door may not respond to the keypad because the wires in the keypad are damaged. Loose connections, fraying, and other forms of damage may be the culprit here. To find out, remove the back cover of the keypad and examine the wires therein. Re-secure those that look loose, replace the cover and try to open the garage door again.
Aging or Old Keypad
Most keypads will last about 10 years, so if yours is about that age, you may need to replace it if it is malfunctioning. Environmental conditions can cause premature deterioration, so observe for rust, damaged keys, cracks, and other signs of advanced wear and tear.
If the above solutions donโt yield the desired results, call A-Tex Roofers & Remodeling. Our San Antonio, TX garage door repair and service technicians will check the keypad and entire system and recommend the best way forward. Contact us today!
